England Experiences 10% Increase in Solar Panel Installations in Early Months of Labour Government.

Research from iChoosr, a company advancing renewable energy adoption, shows that nearly 75,000 solar panels were installed in England during the second half of 2024. This marks a 10% increase compared to the 68,000 panels installed in the first half of the year.

Since the new Labour government took office, there has been a notable uptick not only in solar panel installations but also in overall renewable energy adoption, which is up by 15%. Installations of heat pumps, solar panels, and batteries have all increased since last July.

The government’s focus on renewable energy is clear, with measures like establishing Great British Energy to invest in clean power, setting ambitious solar targets for 2030, and encouraging more solar installations on homes and new buildings through their “rooftop revolution” initiative.

George Frost, UK Country Manager at iChoosr, commented, “It’s encouraging to see more people adopting solar panels, but we’ll need even bigger changes to reach our net zero goals. With energy prices rising and more people wanting to live sustainably, UK households are increasingly seeking energy-efficient solutions.”

The iChoosr report also identified the leading areas for renewable energy installations in 2024—across solar panels, batteries, and heat pumps:

Top Green Energy Areas 2024:

  • Maldon, Essex
  • Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire
  • East Lindsey, Lincolnshire
  • South Hams, Devon
  • Winchester, Hampshire

Among these, Maldon (Essex), South Hams (Devon), and the Forest of Dean (Gloucestershire) had the highest rates of solar panel installations for the year.

Mr Frost added, “From the South Coast to the East, households across England are embracing renewables. Renewable energy is no longer out of reach for most people. Thanks to new partnerships and initiatives, more homeowners can make the switch and enjoy the benefits of clean energy.”
